Final Post

Well, this will be my final post of the semester. I never thought the end of the semester would come so quickly but all of a sudden it was upon us. I have so many presentations and projects and tests coming up it is unreal but I hope that I will do well. I have thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Hossain's class, even with her gone for half of the semester. This really challenged me to make sure I completed all the assignments on time and didn't procrastinate. Most of the time I had to learn how to teach myself, or show others what to do, even though I knew Dr. Hossain was only an email away if I needed any assistance. I have learned so much about computers as well as the variety of programs that we completed assignments on and I know that they will benefit me in the future.

I hope that everyone has a good finals week and a happy holiday season.

Merry Christmas!!

And the Countdown begins!!

I can't believe that it is already the end of the semester. Time has flown by so quickly. Its now crunch time and I am working on finishing all of my projects and presentations that are due within the next week or so. Finals start next week and as everyone probably knows that will be quite the stressful time.

Hopefully everyone has a great holiday season and good luck with all your finals! :)

Week 13

Today I helped developed a new movie with the rest of my team that highlights the facilities of our organization. We took all the viewers on a tour around the facility showcasing gymnasiums, fields and even other services that we offer. Thanksgiving break is only a day away so we're going to be taking a short break from all of our hard work, but everyone can look forward to seeing the real deal next monday when we return!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

More Stuff

The latest assignment that we turned in was our database/spreadsheet. We were taught how to create a spreadsheet using Microsoft Excel. We learned how to plug in various numbers and use the formulas to sum up totals, find averages, minimums, maximums etc... I work with Microsoft Excel on a daily basis and feel very comfortable using it for fun and in the workplace.

My group has also been working very hard to complete all of our assignments. Emma and I recently worked on our video for our group where we created a commercial about our organization. The one that we uploaded to our blog is the shortened version but we also uploaded a new version to YouTube (watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YqhhqEBqnk  )

My Story

This week we had to turn in several projects. The one project that I just finished working on was my digital story telling project. With this, we had to create a story about ourselves using Photo Story 3.0. I did my story on my experience at the Brette Hawke Auburn Swim Camp that I worked at this summer down in Alabama. I put in a lot of pictures representing my time and experience there. I also included pictures with some famous athletes and coaches I was able to have the opportunity to work with. They have such a fantastic facility down there and I was able to learn so much about the world of swimming and much much more!!! I hope I will have the opportunity of going back someday.

Week 8-9

Dr. Hossain has left, so the class is pretty much on our own pace for the rest of the semester. My group has been working hard on our projects and we have accomplished so much. I am still in the process of finishing up my presentation plan to submit within the next few days. I am also in the middle of working on my digital story telling project. Some of the projects are a little overwhelming since we don't have teacher supervision anymore but I feel confident in my abilities to complete all of the tasks at hand. Here is the newsletter we just finished.

Week 7

We have had a lot of assignments lately in our EDTF class. We have created several documents for our team "Youth Sports Across America." We have created a team booklet that lists all the information about our team as well as a short bio about each of our group members.

I have learned so much thus far in this class. I have learned how to create my own website, work in publisher and microsoft excel and word. I have also learned how to use other programs such as google docs and Inspiration software. The technology we have today is truly amazing and I know that taking this class will really help me in the future.

On a different note, I will be attending a sports management conference on friday at Robert Morris University. This will be a great opportunity to meet lots of representatives from several different organizations and I could even have the opportunity to get an internship!

This weekend will also be the first meet of our swim season. It is an intersquad meet (Crimson vs. White). Our team always has a lot of fun with this every year by having different themes and lots of fun costumes.

Week 4

This week in my EDTF class I finally finished my webquest project. Our goal was to create a website that taught people or learners about something interesting. I decided to do my webquest on my hometown region of Erie, PA. It is a beautiful region located right on Lake Erie. In my webquest I provided several different links to some of the great attractions located in the area such as Waldameer Park and Water World, Lake Erie, Presque Isle State Park and more.
Check out my webquest at http://www.student.lhup.edu/bwillia3/WEBQUEST/s-adlake_erie.htm

Picture I took in photography class in high school.
Vineyards are a major part of this area.

Week 3

This week in our EDTF class we finally got our groups together. Our group is off to a great start!! We created an organization called Youth Sports Across America. Our group is designed specifically for young student athletes ages 6-21. We take an active role in our students lives by helping them achieve a mandated grade point average as well as completing community services hours.

This week I also learned how to create and publish my own website using Microsoft Expression Web. It is really amazing to see the things you can create with your imagination and to actually get it published on the internet at the touch of a button. My website lists all my favorite links and websites that I visit frequently. It also links to a webquest page that I am working on about my hometown area on Lake Erie.

Week 2-Concept Map

This week in our EDTF300 class, Dr. Hossain showed us how to create concept maps and diagrams using Inspiration Software. Concept maps are very helpful and useful in the sense that they help us depict relationships and ideas through pictures and diagrams.

I created a concept map about myself and the person that I am. I split the diagram into two separate sections. The first is about Lock Haven University and all of the activities I am involved in such as Women’s Swimming as well as an Admissions Ambassador and what I want to do in the future.  I am a Sports Administration major and eventually want to go into Event and Facility Management in the NFL, preferably for a team down south. I also want to attend graduate school. My number one choice at this time is the University of North Carolina at Charlotte because they offer one of the best programs in the country. The other side is about my life back home and all the experiences I have had there. I live in “Grape Country.” For miles and miles on end all you see are grape vineyards. There is a winery around every corner and harvest time is my favorite because all you can smell are the grapes. I attended North East High School and graduated in 2007. MY best friend Jared Bifulco was killed in a car accident in October of my senior year. I added this to my map because his death affected a large part of me and who I am today because of what happened. I also included a few of the hobbies I like to do in my spare time such as swimming and collecting beach glass.

A little bit about me

My name is Brittany Williams. I have just started my senior year at Lock Haven University. My area of discipline is Sports Administration and I have taken on minors in Coaching, Aquatics and Recreation Management. I also currently compete as a Lady Eagle on the Women's swim team at Lock Haven.

Throughout my entire life I have always been involved in sports in one way or another and I have loved every minute of it. Pursuing a career  in sports couldn't have been a better decision. There are so many different areas to get involved in. After I graduate from LHU I am planning on attending graduate school. Where that may be is still undecided at the moment however, I am crossing my fingers and hoping I get in to UNC. Afterwards I would like to go into Event and Facilities Management at the Professional sports level.

Since I was 3 years old I have been a swimmer. Swimming is such a major part of my life, I am not sure who I would be without all the experiences this sport has given me. Someday I would like to give back to the swimming community and become a coach. Helping an athlete pursue their dreams like all my coaches have helped me pursue mine would mean so much. to me.

Regarding technology, I feel that I know what I'm doing most of the time. I am not an expert by any means but I am able to do the basics and a little more when its called for. I have taken a few online courses throughout my college years. One in Psychology, Music, and a Government class. I did fairly well in all of these classes and liked being able to complete the assignments at my own pace. However, I do not feel that I would be able to take this class online. I like the face to face interaction that is involved and being able to come talk to the professor when I need help.

One interesting fact about me is that this past summer I had an amazing opportunity to work down in Auburn, AL at the Brett Hawke Auburn Swim Camps as a camp counselor and swim coach. Throughout my time down here I was able to meet some of the biggest names and faces in the swimming world such as coaches Brett Hawke and Ian Pope and Olympic Swimmers Cesar Cielo, Rowdy Gaines, Mark Gangloff and Tyler McGill.
